The purpose of electing a deacon is to appoint faithful men who will serve the church by meeting the practical needs of the congregation, supporting the ministry of the Word, and exemplifying Christlike character, as described in Acts 6:3 and 1 Timothy 3:8-13. The Deacons responsibility will be primarily that of assisting the ministry of the Pastors and Elders as set forth in Acts 6:1-4. Deacons will help meet material and physical needs by oversight of the Benevolence Fund and caring for the widows, elderly, and special needs members.
